Welcome to Student Transfers

We are now Open for Summer applications. The application period will close on the 14th of May.

All of our colleagues are important to us, which is why we’re always looking for ways to support you through whatever you choose to do.

What is a Student Transfer?

During set holiday periods of the academic year, Students At Tesco offer a service to all students called Student Transfer Service. If you are new to Tesco or returning back to University or College for your next year, the Student Transfer Service helps support students wishing to change the store they work at.

How does it work?

During Easter and Christmas periods most Universities and colleges break up for a specified time. Students can either stay at their place of work during this time or travel back home. For those who wish to travel home, you can apply for a student transfer and work temporarily at a different store during this time. Once the University or college starts back again, you would return to your term time store and continue your employment.

All students returning home for the summer break will need to apply for a transfer home and again in September if returning to university. Even stores you have worked at before the summer break may not be able to guarantee you hours on your return to university.

September time is for new students starting College or University and wish to use the Student Transfer Service to try and locate a term time job near their education provider. It is also for existing students to return back to their term time store after working for the summer at their home store.

Please have a look at the information provided within this site and if you have any queries please email a member of our team who will be happy to help.

PLEASE NOTE: Transfers are not guaranteed

A few things to remember when considering a transfer

  • Don't limit your choice of store.
  • Choose stores by using the Tesco store locator.
  • Remember that Metro and Express are small formats of stores and have fewer vacancies than Superstores and Extra's. Please take this into consideration when choosing your stores.
  • Be flexible on your hours/days. Our most common shifts available are weekends and evenings.
  • Please be as specific as possible around leave, start and return dates on your application form as stores will not offer hours until they have this information.
  • Make the most of the comments box on the application form to make us aware of anything you feel may affect your transfer i.e. booked holidays. ?
